A government program called “PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana” attempts to give Indian homes free electricity. On February 15, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced the program. Households will receive a subsidy to put solar panels on their roofs as part of the program. Up to 40% of the solar panels’ cost will be covered by the subsidy. One crore households in India are anticipated to gain from the program. The program is expected to reduce the government’s annual electricity expenditures by Rs. 75,000 crore.

Application Process PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana
Step 1: Visit the official website.
Step 2: To register, please provide the following information.
– Select your state.
– Choose your Electricity Distribution Company.
- Enter your Electricity Consumer Number.
– Enter mobile number.
– Enter your email. - Please follow the directions from the portal.
Step 3: Log in with your Consumer Number and Mobile Number.
Step 4: Complete the Rooftop Solar Application Form.
Step-5: Complete the online application form.
Step 6: Wait for the feasibility approval from DISCOM. Once you have received feasibility permission, any of your DISCOM’s registered vendors can install the plant.
Step 7: Once the installation is completed, submit the plant specifications and request for a net meter.
Step 8: Once the net meter is installed and inspected by DISCOM, a commissioning certificate will be generated from the portal.
Step 9: Submit your bank account details and a canceled cheque through the portal to receive the subsidy within 30 days.
Benefits of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana
Financial aid comprises a 60% subsidy for solar systems up to 2 kW and a 40% subsidy for systems with capacities ranging from 2 to 3 kW. Subsidies are limited to a maximum of 3 kW system size, totaling up to INR 78,000.
